Sulbutiamine (isobutyrylthiamine disulfide) (brand name: Arcalion®)  is a novel fat soluble derivative of vitamin B-1 (thiamine) that rapidly and quickly crosses the blood-brain barrier. Developed by the amazing French pharmaceutical company Servier under the name Arcalion for mental and physical exhaustion. It has been shown to promote wakefulness, anti fatigue, long-term memory, improve response to stress, and have a positive effect on mood.

The effect of a sulbutiamine chronic treatment on memory was studied in rats with a spatial delayed-non-match-to-sample (DNMTS) task in a radial maze and a two trial object recognition task. After completion of training in the DNMTS task, animals were subjected for 9 weeks to daily injections of either saline or sulbutiamine (12.5 or 25 mg/kg).
