Centrophenoxine
Centrophenoxine has been used to treat the symptoms of senile dementia and Alzheimer's Disease. It is a compound of two biochemicals: DMAE (dimethylaminoethanol), and pCPA (parachlorophenoxyacetate). DMAE is found naturally in fish and is a chemical precursor to acetylcholine. pCPA is a synthetic chemical similar in structure to plant hormones called auxins. Centrophenoxine is also a precursor to the neurotransmitter acetylcholine and has been shown to increase the amount of acetylcholine available in the central nervous system. This nootropic has been shown to increase CO2 (carbon dioxide) production as well as O2 (oxygen) production; all signs of an increase in ATP (adenosine triphosphate) production in the brain. ATP is pure cell energy. Centrophenoxine improves memory, cognition and the speed of memory recall. One study using 76 elderly subjects, all of whom were showing signs of mental deterioration found that Centrophenoxine increased the storage of new information into long term memory, while also increasing alertness after several weeks of study. Centrophenoxine should not be taken by patients with very high blood pressure or convulsive disorders, such as epilepsy, or by pregnant or lactating women. Centrophenoxine Research and Studies
