Preliminary results of inositol supplement studies show promising results for people suffering from problems like bulimia, panic disorder, and bipolar depression. A double blind 28 day controlled study of 28 depressed patients was performed. They found, on the fourth week, that Inositol had major benefits compared to the placebo on the Hamilton depression scale.

Inositol has also shown promise in the treatment of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), because serotonin plays such an important role in Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. This can be confirmed by the beneficial effects SSRI's have in the treatment of the disorder and how serotonin agonists make the symptoms worst. Inositol has been shown to increase serotonin levels in the brain reducing OCD symptoms.
