L-5HTP:
L-5HTP is a naturally occurring amino acid, precursor to the neurotransmitter serotonin, and an Intermediate in tryptophan metabolism. It is generally marketed as a dietary supplement, often used as an anti-depressant, appetite suppressant & sleep aid. Aside from its researched ability to aid in depression, current research shows that 5-HTP can help children with night terrors. After six months of use 83.9% of the children reported a cease in persistent nightmares.
L-5HTP crosses the
brain-blood barrier readily, which is advantageous when comparing it
to 5-HT which can not. But beware, excessive doses of 5HTP,
especially when used conjointly with
Vitamin B-6 is alleged to be
metabolized and excreted before reaching the brain.
