Phenylethylamine, also known as Phenethylamine, is a monoamine alkaloid. It functions in the human brain either as a neuromodulator (a substance other than a neurotransmitter, conveying information, that is released from a neuron at a synapse over a region of neurons.) or a neurotransmitter (the brains chemicals that amplify, relay, and modulate electrical signals between a neuron and another cell). Phenylethylamine is most notably found in chocolate, PEA (phenylethylamine) is the chemical attributed to chocolates well known aphrodisiac effects. It has been referred to as the "love drug" because of its effect on beta endorphins, an opioid peptide responsible for pleasurable feelings. Mimicking the brains chemistry when a person is in love.
